Death of the Norwich Otter – The dangers of illegal crayfish trapping

In 2020 an Otter had set up home in the River Wensum in Norwich. The otter was regularly seen by walkers and other river users but in late November she fell victim to an illegally placed Crayfish trap in the river. Along with being illegal, these traps pose a real threat to wildlife and have killed many non-target aquatic species , the latest being the Norwich Otter. I hope this video raises awareness to the risks of using illegal crayfish traps and the impact that doing so can have on beautiful, enigmatic and much loved river inhabitants. If you see illegal traps in UK waterways, please report them to the Environment agency and you will potentially be saving other magnificent and innocent wild animals.
